Podcast #56 R.S.C.: Reflective Spiritual Cognition Track Listing:

    1.    (0:00:35) Son House GRINNIN' IN YOUR FACE - check out how interesting a blues song can be while clapping off-beat.  Almost not even sure why he decides to clap.  I've never thought of this before, but if you're a musician, better a singer, I guess, have you ever tried to sing in time and clap off-beat?  It must be incredibly difficult.  Perhaps one would argue that you can never be off-beat, since it's all creation and all relevant and time is only relative :)
    2.    (0:02:30) The Raconteurs BLUE VEINS - Jack White's favorite song of all-time, 'Grinnin' In Your Face,' by Son House, so it's only natural to put Jack following Son.
    3.    (0:06:15) TV On The Radio A METHOD
    4.    (0:10:26) CocoRosie PROMISE
    5.    (0:13:55) Savath & Savalas OLHAS - leave it up to Prefuse 73's Scott Herran to produce an abstract track such as this, along with his other band mates with Savath.
    6.    (0:15:01) Bibio THE PALM OF YOUR WAVE
    7.    (0:17:16) Clap Your Hands Say Yeah GIMMIE SOME SALT - heard this group was a little shaky live, but this track is pretty dope!
    8.    (0:20:08) Jose Gonzalez CROSSES
    9.    (0:22:39) Trans Am FIRST WORDS
    10.    (0:26:15) Murs & 9th Wonder feat. Kurupt LIVE FROM ROSCOE'S
    11.    (0:31:03) Norken SOUTHERN SOUL
    12.    (0:38:23) Outkast CRUMBLIN' ERB - a sick OG Outkast track off their first LP, Sothernplayalisticadillacmuzik
    13.    (0:43:28) St. Vincent LAUGHING WITH MOUTH OF BLOOD
    14.    (0:46:23) Whitest Boy Alive HIGH ON THE HEELS
    15.    (0:49:23) Modeselektor GET WASTED IN SILENCE
    16.    (0:50:11) NPR: Fresh Air with Terry Gross INTERVIEW WITH JILL BOLTE TAYLOR (OVERLAID/MIXED WITH BOTH MODESELEKTOR & DJ SHADOW) - this is one of the most fascinating interview I've ever heard, and couldn't help but to find a way to stick it in a mix.  This track by Modeselektor sounds like neurons firing, and what better way to emphasize that than to include an interview with a neurologist who experienced a hemmorrhagic stroke and lived to retell her entire living?  If you're interested, like me, check out her book, My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor.  She basically had to relearn living from year 1 and relearn, in a sense, to be a neurologist again - her left hemisphere was swimming in blood, damaging her linear thinking and language, but her right hemisphere knew the pictures and creations.  Imagine knowing a picture of a tree when shown a tree, but not knowing what it is in language.  This interview itself is special, because her voice is so fluid and constant that it works perfectly with the music all the way through, and into the DJ Shadow track.  This is off the the 5.15.2009 podcast, however, the original interview withe Terry was a year before this one aired.   As I said, brilliant interview with Terry Gross, one of the best in the business!
    17.    (0:52:16) DJ Shadow LIVE Show Medley: Unkle feat. Kool G Rap LONELY SOULS - DJ Shadow's LIVE! In Tune & On Time is one of my all time favorite records, and I wanted to include one of the most rocking sections of his live set here.
    18.    (0:55:09) DJ Shadow LIVE Show Medley: LOST & FOUND - one of the best drum beats in modern pop music, provided by U2's Larry Mullen, Jr.  This drum cadence begins the famous song, 'Sunday Bloody Sunday.'
    19.    (0:58:02) DJ Shadow LIVE Show Medley: WHAT DOES YOUR SOUL LOOK LIKE (PART 3)
    20.    (1:01:13) DJ Shadow LIVE Show Medley: MUTUAL SLUMP
    21.    (1:03:56) Haiku D'etat ALL GOOD THINGS
